Oliver Wagner’s practice is an ongoing investigation into expanded painting, centred upon his fascinating rematerialisation of acrylic house paint into dust. Wagner’s unique adaptation of painting results in fixed and ephemeral compositions on linen, as well as ephemeral installations. The dust paintings are components of wider activities, embodied as post-performance relics from Wagner’s ever-evolving wall painting and his careful archiving of its residual sandings. Chance and accident remain fundamental and active agents in Wagner’s practice, determining compositional outcomes and providing new possible frameworks within which Wagner can continue his experimental investigations into painting.
