Noel McKenna

Noel McKenna was born in 1956 in Brisbane, Australia. He has lived in Sydney since 1981.

After a year of studying architecture, Noel followed the drawing teacher’s suggestion that he might be better suited to art school. His interest in architecture has continued, however, and his paintings often show suburban houses and their interiors. Animals are another constant, with horses, dogs and watchful cats occupying central space.

Noel has had many solo exhibitions, most recently at mother’s tankstation, Dublin, Ireland in 2015. In 2014, solo exhibitions were held at Darren Knight Gallery, Sydney; Newcastle Art Gallery, Newcastle, Australia; Two Rooms, Auckland; and at Art Basel Hong Kong, mother’s tankstation, Stand.

Three solo exhibitions of Noel’s work have been held at Bowen Galleries, Wellington and his exhibition ‘Sheltered Life’ was at City Gallery Wellington in 2005. He exhibits regularly at Darren Knight Gallery, Sydney; Niagara Galleries, Melbourne; and Greenaway Art Gallery, Adelaide. His work has been included in many group shows.

Noel McKenna’s work is held in many public collections throughout Australia and New Zealand, including: Art Bank, Australia, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Australia, Art Gallery of South

Australia, Australia, Macquarie Bank, Sydney, Australia, Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, Australia, National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, Australia, National Gallery of Victoria, Australia, Parliament House, Canberra, Australia, Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane, Australia, Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, Hobart, Australia, and Chartwell Collection, Auckland Art Gallery, New Zealand.
