Peter Trevelyan

Peter Trevelyan’s sculptures are a three-dimensional investigation of two-dimensional methods and media. In his hands the tool of drawing becomes the material of sculpture. Tiny 0.5mm graphite mechanical pencil leads are joined together to create what may be seen as built drawings, covering a diverse range of geometrically simple and complex structures varying in scale from tiny to large. More recently, he has been producing large-scale public commissions using plastic set squares and rulers.

Peter has a BFA from the University of Canterbury and a PhD from Massey University, Wellington. He has been exploring this medium since 2007 and had more than a dozen public gallery shows before starting to show commercially three years ago. A work spanning six-meters was acquired by the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu and is included in their re-opening exhibition.
