Auckland Art Fair had a wonderful response to the 2013 VIP Programme with collectors from all over New Zealand and Australia taking advantage of unlimited access to the Fair and a host of unique experiences besides.
The programme was peppered with discussions and tours on site and around the city, and private hostings and dinners in the evenings. Collectors took part in a range of activities including a behind the scenes viewing of the Chartwell Collection at Auckland Art Gallery, and an expedition to the sensational Gibbs Farm to view major works by Anish Kapoor, Bernar Venet and Richard Serra and have lunch with a couple of giraffes.
“Congratulations on a great programme it was very strong and gave a terrific sense of the depth of art on offer in Auckland. The Gibbs Farm trip was a knock out – it is hard to adequately articulate the impact that collection has on the viewer.” Helen McKenzie, Sydney
“The Chartwell tour – wonderful personal insight – thank-you that was a gift.” Paul Baragwanath, Auckland.
Some collectors to start the day with Art Breakfast Club, joining host Sue Gardiner at DeBretts Kitchen for some lively discussion with guest artists and curators. Others opted for a tour out to McCahon House, Titirangi with art scholar Peter Simpson and a chat with the artist-in-residence Fiona Pardington.
“Highlight was those breakfast meetings. The content was interesting and conversation insightful and questions flowed easily thanks to Sue [Gardiner].” Jenny Kight, Havelock North
“The introduction by Peter Simpson to McCahon House was excellent and put the artists life into great perspective.” Robert Bishop, Newcastle
So, a big thanks to those lively people – from Christchurch to Newcastle – who joined our programme this year. You were great company and our little team is already plotting what we can do to engage and entertain everyone in 2015. Will keep you posted on developments.
Meantime a few photos from the archive and best wishes for a Happy October from AKAF HQ.
