North Port Events, one of New Zealand’s foremost event management companies, has acquired Auckland Art Fair with the aim of enhancing the long-term sustainability of New Zealand’s premier contemporary art event and developing it into the leading niche art.
“Galleries, artists, curators, and collectors can rest assured that we are committed to carefully preserving the qualities that have made the fair successful while taking the event to the next level,” says Dona White, CEO of North Port Events.
“Our aim is to develop the fair to become a significant regional showcase for the latest works by leading artists from New Zealand, Australia, and throughout the wider Pacific region. We are also working hard to attract increased numbers of significant private and institutional collectors and curators to the fair.”
Auckland Art Fair has more than tripled in size since the inaugural event in 2005. The 2013 fair attracted 10,000 visitors and generated sales of more than $3.5 million. In practical terms, this means the event has grown to the point that it now requires the stewardship of a professional event management company.
North Port Events is honoured to take on the prestigious task of staging New Zealand’s foremost art event and looks forward to working closely with the New Zealand Contemporary Art Trust Board members to help the event develop and grow.
“Auckland Art Fair is an event with big ambitions that has grown from small beginnings to become a genuinely effective showcase for New Zealand artists on the world stage,” says Ms White.
“We are 100% committed to honouring the vision of the event’s founders and building on its unique qualities to safeguard its future success. Under our stewardship Auckland Art Fair will remain true to its roots while developing the smoothness and efficiency of its operation.
“The selection process for participating galleries, for instance, will remain as rigorous as ever. Leading galleries from New Zealand, Australia, and throughout the Pacific Rim are invited to submit proposals, which will be considered by a Selection Committee comprised of leading arts professionals Hamish Keith, Michael Lett, Dayle Mace, Justin Paton, and Simon Rees.”
