We are very pleased to announce that Micheal Do will curate the 2020 Projects at Auckland Art Fair.
A curator and writer based between Sydney and Auckland, Micheal works currently at 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art. His exhibition Soft Core, exploring soft and inflatable sculptures developed for Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, Sydney, is currently touring twelve regional and rural galleries throughout New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland. His arts writing appears in publications including Art Collector Australia, Art Review Asia, Art Monthly Australasia and 10 Magazine. Micheal was the 2018 recipient of The Freedman Foundation’s Travelling Scholarship for Curators.
The Auckland Art Fair Projects brings to the Fair a programme of commissioned art works, often from early-career artists, that would not normally appear in the gallery sections of the Fair. As such it offers a valuable curated perspective to the art conversations taking place at and around the Fair, and we look forward to Micheal’s contribution. Over the three previous editions of the Art Fair, the Projects have been curated by: Jarrod Rawlins (MONA, Hobart) and Simon Rees (former Director, Govett Brewster Art Gallery / Len Lye Centre) in 2016, Francis McWhannell (Independent curator and writer, Auckland) and Gabriela Salgado (Artistic Director, Te Tuhi, Auckland) in 2018, and Francis McWhannell in 2019.
Auckland Art Fair are also very pleased once again to be working with Britomart, Creative New Zealand and Deadly Ponies, whose support enables art commissions from the Projects to be shown both in The Cloud and at Britomart during the 2020 Art Fair.
Auckland Art Fair 2020 will take place at The Cloud from Wed 29 April – Sun 3 May – tickets will go on sale in February.
