Francis Upritchard’s work is rife with references to other times, places and cultures. The New Zealand-born, London-based sculptor is known for her mummies and canopic jars, faux-Maori artefacts and severed heads, anthropomorphic sloths and monkeys, technicolour sages and exotic dancers.
This book was published to accompany Jealous Saboteurs, a touring exhibition surveying twenty years of the artist’s work. It features new essays by Megan Dunn, Tessa Laird, and Robert Leonard, and an interview with Upritchard by artist Brian Griffiths. Upritchard often commissions novelists to write on her work. This book includes a new text by Deborah Levy and previously published texts by Hari Kunzru, David Mitchell, and Ali Smith.
