Born 1985 in Yongzhou, China, he currently lives and works in Beijing. He graduated from the Sculpture Department at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2011.
Li’s practice is an exploration of spatial systems and the possibilities for action within a space. For him, space is a physical and socio-political entity. Through his personal interventions, Li invites viewers to reconsider appropriate and legitimate boundaries, casting further doubt on common sense as a medium of control.
His recent solo exhibitions include Social Behaviours, CFCCA, Manchester, United Kingdom, 2015; Who’s Dreams, Today Art Museum, Beijing, China, 2014; Reservoir Dogs, ACTION SPACE, Beijing, China, 2014; and I Have Issues, Gallery Yang, Beijing, China, 2013. He has been included in major group exhibitions including Land: Zhang Huan and Li Binyuan, MoMA PS1, New York, 2018; Soiland Stones, Souls and Songs, Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, Manila, Philippines, 2016; and Turning Point: Contemporary Art in China Since 2000, Minsheng Art Museum, Shanghai, China, 2016.
