Director’s Note

A Note from Our Director

SUE WAYMOUTH, FAIR DIRECTOR

I’m particularly proud to present this year’s Fair. The Aotearoa Art Fair is New Zealand’s largest contemporary art fair, and it’s a privilege to help shape an event that brings together artists, galleries and audiences from across Aotearoa and around the world.

Since joining the Fair, I’ve been continually inspired by the energy of our artists, the dedication of galleries, and the enthusiasm of visitors. Each year, the Fair grows, not just in size, but in ambition, diversity and the experiences we’re able to offer.

In 2025, we welcomed more than 11,000 visitors, the largest audience in the Fair’s history. For 2026, we are building on that momentum, with our biggest programme yet, more galleries than ever before, and artists from over 25 countries.

What makes the Aotearoa Art Fair truly special, however, is not only its scale. It is the uniqueness of Aotearoa itself. Our country’s creative voice is shaped by Māori and Pacific cultures alongside contemporary practices from across the globe, creating a perspective that is distinctive, vibrant and deeply connected to place.

Set on Auckland’s stunning waterfront, the Fair is designed to be welcoming and accessible, whether you are an experienced collector, a first-time visitor, or simply curious about contemporary art. Beyond the Fair itself, the city becomes part of the experience, with installations, events and cultural activity unfolding across the waterfront and beyond.

For me, the most exciting part of Aotearoa Art Fair is the sense of discovery, the moment someone encounters an artwork that surprises them, challenges them, or stays with them long after they leave.

I warmly invite you to join us and experience Aotearoa Art Fair for yourself. I can’t wait to welcoming you!
