Sea Creatures by The Huxleys

A roving spectacle of gender fluid creatures, queer wizardry and costumes evoked from the surreal beauty of the natural world. A moving, comical tableaux of performance art and absurdity.

Will and Garrett Huxley (Aus/Gumbaynggirr/Yorta Yorta) are Australian based collaborative visual and performance artists. The Huxleys are a dynamic duo of cataclysmic proportions who present queer spectacle and disco enthused wizardry across the visual art, performance and fashion worlds. Their photography and performance art traverses the classifications of costume, film and recording. A visual assault of sparkle, surrealism and the absurd, The Huxleys saturate their practice and projects with a glamorous, androgynous freedom which sets out to bring some escapism and magic to everyday life. Since 2014 The Huxleys have performed, exhibited and participated in numerous exhibitions, projects and events in Australia, and internationally in London, Berlin, Moscow, New York, Arles and Hong Kong.

Scott Perkins presented by Michael Reid Sydney + Berlin

Photographer Scott Perkins joins us to discuss a practice defined by patience, precision and a deep sensitivity to landscape. Waiting for the exact alignment of light, atmosphere and form, Perkins creates images that hover between observation and reverie: scenes that feel both discovered and somehow enchanted. In this conversation he will speak about the craft behind the work, and how photography can hold a fleeting moment of land, sea and sky in perfect suspension.

An Artist Guide to the Fair with Sarah Smuts-Kennedy

This tour opens up a conversation to consider how harmony takes form in contemporary art through rhythm, material, gesture, and composition. Across the fair, we’ll look at works that reveal beauty not as decoration, but as evidence of deeper coherence.

Smuts-Kennedy’s practice is focused on a research based investigation into fields of energy as they engage with conceptual thinking both within an art based language and other intuition driven modes of enquiry.

Her art practice synthesises broad research territories that integrate restorative horticultural and esoteric knowledge. Over the past decade she has been able to test these out at both a social sculptural scale across New Zealand, and her studio based practice. These projects have enabled her to develop embodied knowledge that has culminated in delivering large scale energy installations both within community, landscape and contemporary art contexts. The foundation of her practice centres around performing the possibility of healing with the outcomes of this performance (her life) giving form to artefacts that vibrate the qualities of joy, the vibration when experienced in the bodies of biological life occur as aliveness, balance and peacefulness.

An Artist’s Curated View Tour of the Fair with Steve Carr

This tour offers a curated view of the fair through the lens of a practicing contemporary artist and McCahon House Alumni, Steve Carr. Focusing on experimentation with materials, humour, and conceptual strategies, it highlights works that push the boundaries of form, function, and audience expectation. Participants will gain insight into the processes and ideas shaping some of today’s most inventive art.

Steve Carr works across sculpture and lens-based practice. His work employs acts of material and conceptual transformation that unsettle the stability of familiar objects and images, often using humour to shift expectations of authorship, function, and meaning. Carr completed an MFA at Elam School of Fine Arts in 2003 and is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Canterbury’s Ilam School of Art. He is represented by Gow Langsford Gallery (New Zealand) and STATION Gallery (Australia).

Kenny Pittock presented by MARS Gallery

Join Kenny Pittock at the MARS Gallery booth to discover how his fascination with discarded shopping lists evolved into a series of intimate ceramic sculptures. These delicate lists were found as Kenny travelled from Auckland to Wellington—most shopping lists are written quickly, unlike ceramics which is a very slow medium, and it’s through this act of slowly recreating the objects that Kenny allows himself the time and space to reflect on them. With humour and warmth, Kenny will talk about how he transforms everyday moments into timeless pieces, offering a lighthearted look into his creative process and the stories behind his work!

Fatu Feu’u and Alison Leauanae presented by Bergman Gallery

Fatu Feu’u ONZM and Alison Leauanae will be present at the Bergman Gallery booth, discussing new works created especially for Aotearoa Art Fair 2026.

A pioneering figure in Pacific contemporary art, Fatu Feu’u has spent more than five decades developing a distinctive visual language grounded in fa’a Sāmoa. Drawing on motifs associated with tatau (tattoo), siapo (barkcloth), ufimata (masks), lalaga (weaving), the gogo (frigate bird), and references to Lapita pottery, his paintings transform traditional Samoan iconography into powerful contemporary compositions rich in symbolism and cultural narrative.

Alison Leauanae’s hand-stitched works examine soʻotaga—connection—through carefully structured fields of thread and textile. Her practice engages lived experience, fragmented memory, identity, and purpose, translating these themes into layered visual systems that interlace her Scottish and Samoan heritage.

Visit the Bergman Gallery booth to meet the artists and experience the works in person.

Then and Now – The Life, Art & Legacy of Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda Sally Gabori (c.1924-2015)

Beverly Knight is honoured to have represented and nurtured the entire career of the incomparable Sally Gabori. Since the artist’s passing in 2015, Knight was appointed the Agent for the Estate of Sally Gabori Art by the Executor of her Estate.

At this insightful talk, Beverly Knight lends her intimate knowledge of the life and art of one of Australia’s most nationally and internationally significant First Nations artists. Sally Gabori was a remarkable artist and Kaiadilt woman who began her artistic career in her 80s, her inspiration to paint was recalling from her mind’s eye her home Country of Bentinck Island in the Gulf of Carpentaria, Queensland. Any artist developing a non-derivative style of painting in any century internationally is special; however, Sally Gabori, in doing so, reshaped the landscape of First Nations art worldwide. Gabori continues to captivate collectors and art lovers, globally renowned as one of the most important artists in Australian history.
