Want to know how to create magic with another artist? Join a discussion on different kinds of creative collaborations and how artists can work together, led by moderator Andrew Clifford with artist collaborators, John Reynolds and Karl Maughan, and Tui Emma Gillies and Sulieti Fiem’a Burrows.

John Renolds Karl Maughan

JOHN REYNOLDS & KARL MAUGHAN

Reynolds and Maughan are both well-established painters and great friends who came together for the 2023 exhibition, Extra Floral. Reynolds is represented by McLeavey Gallery and STARKWHITE in Aotearoa New Zealand, Karl Maughan is represented by Milford Galleries, Page Galleries, and Gow Langsford in Aotearoa New Zealand.

TUI EMMA GILLIES & SULIETI FIEME’A BURROWS

Sulieti Fieme’a Burrows and Tui Emma Gillies are a Tongan New Zealand mother-and-daughter team that make tapa cloth and are scholars of the art. The mother-daughter duo have presented, exhibited, and sold their art to museums and private collections around the world and were the recipients of the 2018 Creative New Zealand Heritage Arts Award. Tui and Sue are represented by Masterworks Gallery.

Andrew Clifford

ANDREW CLIFFORD

Andrew Clifford is the Director of the Sarjeant Gallery, which reopens later this year in Whanganui after an extensive redevelopment that has included a significant co-design process. Andrew Clifford is also a writer and curator, and was the inaugural director of Te Uru. He was previously Curator and Acting Director at the University of Auckland’s Centre for Art Studies, where he helped manage the university’s Gus Fisher Gallery and art collection.
