Britomart

Britomart is a nine-block precinct at the heart of downtown waterfront Auckland where heritage buildings and gritty laneways jostle up against sleek new architecture, and where art is part of the neighbourhood’s DNA. From permanent works like Chris Bailey’s (Te Aupōuri, Ngāti Hako, Ngāti Porou) ‘Pou Tū Te Rangi’ (2011), and ‘Pipi Beds’ (2003) by Chaz Doherty (Ngāi Tūhoe), Renata Blair (Ngāti Whātua) and Bernard Makoare (Ngāti Whātua, Te Uri o Hau, Te Waiariki, Te Kaitūtae), to Tim Gruchy’s digital tower ‘Scout’ (2012) and dynamic temporary installations by Charlotte Graham, Jermaine Dean, James K Lowe, Tracey Tawhiao, Janet Lilo, Tyrone Ohia and more, art at Britomart is a fundamental part of the urban fabric, a vibrant expression of the precinct’s place in the centre of Tāmaki.
