VIADUCT HARBOUR PRESENTS THE AOTEAROA ART FAIR SCULPTURE TRAIL
The Fair extended beyond the Viaduct Events Centre with the inaugural Aotearoa Art Fair Sculpture Trail, presented by Viaduct Harbour, which ran from 16 April to 14 May. After visiting the Fair, guests took a stroll through Viaduct Harbour to discover nine extraordinary artworks that pushed the boundaries of large-scale sculpture. Set against the backdrop of Auckland’s beautiful waterfront, it was an opportunity to experience art in a whole new dimension.
Viaduct Harbour, Auckland’s premier waterfront destination, is a proud Major Partner of the Aotearoa Art Fair.
Viaduct Harbour presented Lisa Reihana’s celebrated sculpture Te Wheke-a-Muturangi in Auckland’s waters for the first time. A renowned multi-disciplinary artist, Reihana’s work, featured at the Venice Biennale and exhibited globally, leads the Sculpture Trail with storytelling rooted in Māori cosmology. This is presented by Viaduct Harbour Holdings Ltd, with support from Auckland Council via the city centre targeted rate, and Gallery Sally Dan-Cuthbert. Commissioned for the Aotearoa New Zealand Festival of Arts, 2022.
The Sculpture Trail featured work from leading artists including David McCracken, Anton Forde, Gregor Kregar, Oliver Stretton-Pow and Ben Pearce. With the support of Perpetual Guardian Sculpture on the Gulf, work by Lonnie Hutchinson, Seung Yul Oh and a new work by Tongan artist Sēmesi Fetokai Potauaine, showcased the strength and diversity of contemporary practice in Aotearoa.
